Live To Eat, Don’t Eat To Live
Welcome to AmateurChef.co.uk – A Food blog aimed to showcase tasty recipes, restuarant reviews and useful cooking tips and tricks.
Hi, my name is Martyn and I consider myself an Amateur Chef. I love everything about food and this was the main reason I started this blog, to showcase that passion. I started this blog in 2014 and hope to continue working on it for many many years.
Even though I do consider myself an Amateur, I have continued to develop my skills in the kitchen. I am self taught but I do also take part in a number of cooking courses to help learn something new (such as making pasta)
At first I started Amateur Chef as a place for me to put my favourite recipes but this soon developed into something more. It’s not just cooking food that I love but literally everything about food. That is why you will also find restaurant reviews, chef interviews and cooking tips and tricks that I have learnt along the way.
With the recipes I have tried to make them as easy as possible, as like most people I do have a busy lifestyle. Just because you are busy, doesn’t mean you cannot enjoy tasty food. All of the recipes have been split into courses, which will hopefully make it easier for you to find the recipe you are looking for.
As well as cooking, I love to go out and enjoy a meal that is cooked for me. I think its very important to experience different types of food and also experience the different ways in which people cook and present their food. Going to different restaurants not only helps me to become inspired but also appreciate the hard work that has gone into creating the food that I am eating.
I decided to add restaurant reviews, as a way to hopefully give exposure to those restaurants that I have been to and really enjoyed.
Professional Chefs are something else!
I have so much respect for professional chefs, they work long and hard hours and at the same time have such a talent to make artwork on a plate. I decided to start interviewing chefs, as I find it really interesting to learn more about how they got started and what they like to cook.
More About Me
As I said my name is Martyn (I know its a strange way of spelling, I have not come across many that spell it with a “Y”). I am in my 30’s and live in Nottingham with my amazing wife Rachael and our incredible son Edwin.
I work full time for a digital marketing agency, helping people build traffic to their websites. It is something that I find incredibly interesting and is continuing to change on a monthly basis, so more for me to continue learning. I have been working in the digital scene for many years and have always been creating websites, although i always built them for work.
It was not until 2014 that I finally decided to build a website for something that I had an interest in, and this is where Amateur Chef comes in. During the day I am at work and in the evenings I spend time with Rachael and Edwin, whilst also working on my food blog.
When the weekends come, the laptop goes away and we focus purely on family. Going out to the local park, going for a walk or seeing the animals at a local farm.
As well as food, I have a number of other hobbies such as playing computer games (when I was younger this was more of an obsession than a hobby). I also love to travel and experience as many different cultures as possible.
I have been lucky enough to travel to places with work such as India and enjoyed every minute of it. Rachel and I both love to travel for our holidays, whether its on a cruise and experiencing lots of different stops, a nice long trip through America or an nice relaxing holiday in the UK enjoying a dip in a hot tub!
We want to be able to show Edwin as much of the world as possible, allowing him to learn about new cultures, experience different foods and just appreciate how great the world can be (when you ignore the fake news!)
